When Rebecca Welton calms her anxiety and gets big to feel her courage on the Apple TV show, ‘Ted Lasso’, I was just tickled pink. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S503PzZoQBg) Finally!!! Someone is spreading the good word about this crazy, out-there, unconventional breath technique called the Lion’s Breath. I have been facilitating people to do the Lion’s Breath since I learned it in 2005 as a Laughter Yoga technique. You gather up all your energy, get your big ole lion’s paws out nice and strong, open your mouth big, stick your tongue out as far as it can go and LAUGH/ROAR your LIon’s Breath, “Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!” Rinse, wash and repeat several times and go about your day, but in a bigger, more lived in way. On the show, Rebecca uses this technique whenever she feels small or wants to gather her confidence. She does it to feel her power.
The Lion’s Breath is good for you in so many ways. It stimulates your circulation and gets your chi moving. It stretches your face muscles. It helps you release body tension and anything that is no longer serving you. It is a way to shift your fascial web from the inside out. And, it’s fun! It cracks your shell a little, gets you out of your comfort zone and into where the magic happens.
In this day and age, so many things can knock you, make you feel like nothing matters, nothing is going to change. But this is just simply not true. I wholeheartedly believe that you just being you can change the world. At the very least YOUR experience of it. And that’s something! Something very significant.
So, the next time you feel intimidated, you feel shy or unseen or nervous, the next time you want to make an impact, try gathering all your energy, making yourself big and letting out your ROAR! The world is not only ready for the FULL YOU, we need it!
